For mothers-to-be and young mothers

It has been generally known for a long time that dental infections are hereditary for generations similarly to many other diseases. A study published in US (Oregon, Albany, January 2009) demonstrated that the dental infections which cause tooth decay mostly originate from mothers. It is a fact that the bacterial strain (Mutans Streptococci), directly responsible for tooth decay, may be detected in the mouth of a three-month old baby before the first teeth appear. These bacteria settle down far before the first permanent trees could appear so the bacteria harm them from the beginning.

The same study confirms that birch sugar, if used regularly (a few grams after meals and after tooth-brushing), inhibits the spread of the bacteria inducing infections. The women who regularly consume birch sugar during their pregnancy are considered less potential infection carriers. If a baby also consumes a little birch sugar from the age of six months, it will be much more likely to develop strong and resistant teeth.

According to some studies, birch sugar given to a baby in fluid form at the age between 6 and 15 months may prevent the tooth decay in the early childhood. We suggest that in the beginning the quantity should not exceed a few grams (around six grams per day divided into three doses).

It is extremely important to inhibit and prevent the early tooth decay in favor of the general wellbeing of a young child for several reasons. Children suffering from tooth decay tend to be stuck in growth; they do not eat and sleep properly, which also have negative effects on their learning and other mental abilities.
The same study has revealed that the children who consumed birch sugar instead of table sugar could preserve their dental health in a ratio of 76%. As opposed to the other group of children consuming table sugar the same ratio was only 48%.

We can give babies birch sugar added to tea or we can make light birch sugar solution and apply it onto their teeth or the inside surface of their oral cavity when cleaning the teeth with a piece of cloth.
